There are a few things every girl needs in her travel bag especially if she is planning on beating her face while exploring the world. While some women prefer a simple gloss, others would rather go bold, rocking eye-catching lipstick shades that add flair to their entire look.

With today being National Lipstick Day, it only seemed right to highlight some of our favorite Black-owned cosmetic brands carrying fabulous shades of lipstick perfect for any day or night. While you may have seen some of these brands before, a few are new on the scene and setting a new standard for women’s cosmetics. Next time you’re traveling, grab one of these Black-owned lipstick brands to throw in your carry-on.

Dedicated to producing beautiful products for women of color, Rich in Color Cosmetics was created by Shalena Edwards after she attended a beauty conference and noticed how few Black women were represented. Her response to the lack of diversity was Rich in Color and the brand remains consistent in providing ready-to-wear cosmetics for women of color. The brand’s lipstick collection is vegan and cruelty-free, long-lasting, and has a matte finish. Its creamy, soft texture makes for a smooth application and adds hydration to your lips. We love the deep eggplant color of their Boardroom Bossie shade and Racked Up is the perfect shade of brown for the chocolate ladies going for a nude look.

L Squared Beauty & Cosmetics

The lipstick collection at L Squared Beauty is to die for and we love the full matte coverage their products provide. Our favorite shades are The Rich Auntie and Hot Girl Summer and the brand offers a few other colors complimentary to all skin tones. L Squared’s lipstick is deeply pigmented and will stay in place, even if you have on a mask. You’ll get eight hours of wear out of these velvety lipsticks so you’ll get a lot of bang for only 15 bucks.

After being rejected on Shark Tank, The Lip Bar owner Melissa Butler turned what could’ve been a negative moment into her greatest triumph. The sharks were clearly because Butler had a dynamite brand that has since landed her products on the shelves of Target, Walmart, and Meijer. TLB’s Lip Service Lipstick comes in six bold and creamy satin hues. They are also Infused with castor oil, argan oil, jojoba oil, and hyaluronic acid for added nourishment and hydration.

Allure Beauty

Created by nurse and entrepreneur Nikki Reece, Allure Faces is an incredible brand with a host of amazing products! First off, they have a lash adhesive pen that is the perfect travel size and keeps your lashes on all day long. Their makeup remover is a top-notch formula that is better than any remover on the market. But best of all, Allure Faces has a dynamite lipstick collection. Our favorite shade from the brand is Dirty Dungeon and the weightlessness of this product is really unmatched.

Beau Tie Cosmetics

The lipstick collection at Beau Tie Cosmetics is definitely the creme de la creme amongst lippie connoisseurs. The company is owned and operated by Tie Cooper, a jack of all trades when it comes to beauty entrepreneurship, and they have four amazing shades named after and inspired by iconic Black women in history. Our two fave shades from Beau Tie Cosmetics are Diana Ross Pink and Billie Red Holidaze. Lipsticks can be purchased individually or in a box set and we love the long-lasting hydration and protection these products provide.

Nzuri by Tavon came to life when aviation professional Deidra Conway realized the impact wearing lipstick had on her mood. If she wasn’t having the best day, applying one of her many shades of lipstick would lift her spirits and she wanted to bring that same joy to other women. All of the products are paraben and cruelty-free and hypoallergenic and they have six eye-catching shades. Snakebite, Revenge, and Role Model are our three must-have colors from their collection.

Pink Lipps Cosmetics

Pink Lipps Cosmetics has come a long way since Kenyatta created her first products in her Kansas City, MO kitchen in 2011. You can now find the brand in Target stores and they have so much more to offer than just lipsticks. What we love about Pink Lipps is the variety! With 25 shades of lipstick available, they truly cater to the diverse styles and skin tones of their customers. Their lipstick is also smudge-proof and guaranteed to last up to 13 hours even if you eat, drink, or take a nap.
