Atlanta's Soul Crab Restaurant Is Making Its Way To Chicago
Popular Atlanta seafood spot Soul Crab will soon join the high-end eateries that Chicago’s North Side is famous for. Owned by celebrity chef and cookbook author Darius Williams, Soul Crab Chicago will serve jerk lobster, catfish filet dinners, Cajun-buttered lobster tails, and more.
After the successful launch of two soul food restaurants in Atlanta, Williams is returning to his hometown of Chicago. In a YouTube video announcing his Chicago expansion, Williams shares the struggles of finding a Chi-town location, including rising rents in the rapidly gentrifying city and attempts to secure a liquor license.
Thankfully, the restauranteur’s hard work paid off and Soul Crab will soon open its doors at 1904 N. Western Avenue on the Bucktown/Logan Square border. So far Williams’ restaurants have found homes in predominantly Black neighborhoods, but he’s taking a chance on a new location where authentic soul food is underrepresented.
The grand opening for Soul Crab Chicago has yet to be announced, but window signs are up, indicating that foodies might have a new dining option by the time fall hits the Windy City.
