App Turns Love For Travel Into Love In Real Life

If you think it’s hard to find love abroad, there’s a new feature in an app that may allow you to light a flame among your fellow travelers.
Founded in 2015, App in the Air has a new “nearby” feature designed to connect travelers at the same airport at the same time.
Some of the main features of the app include providing real-time flight updates, TSA wait times, gate changes, boarding times and more, as previously reported in TravelPulse.
Over the years, the app started with a small network of one million active users to more than 20 million itineraries tracked per year.
“We’ve heard numerous anecdotes from users of about the new networks formed from the app—a recent is that two travelers connected through App in the Air to grab lunch at JFK and share a cab into Manhattan,” App in the Air founder & CEO Bayram Annakov told TravelPulse.
According to Annakov, the nearby feature works by allowing app-using travelers to meet up depending on what flight a user has queued up.
“The app prompts users with friendly conversation starters like ‘let’s grab a coffee’ and allows you to see nearby fliers’ occupations, countries of residence, miles and hours traveled,” Annakov stated.
And these conversation staters the app allows, according to Annakov , have created numerous friendships, both professional and personal.
“Although not primarily applied for romantic connections, this function provides the opportunity for other travelers to network with fellow business leaders, entrepreneurs, and frequent fliers—all part of this tribe that views miles flown and airports visited as proud accomplishments, worthy of sharing,” Annakov told TravelPulse.
And if you’re concerned about your privacy, Annakov said that the “nearby” feature in the app is optional.
Travelers looking for tips anonymously can obtain them through crowdsourcing information on the app from other users.
