Traveling by train can be more cost efficient than air travel, especially for those traveling during the holidays. Because of this, Amtrak has seen an increase in their holiday passengers.

Last year, the rail carrier reported close to 850,000 riders making their way to destinations for Thanksgiving. In preparation for an even larger number, the company will be adding additional trains to existing routes as well as additional cars to certain trains this season.

The addition of more trains means that they can operate not only their regular schedule but extended ones too. Despite bringing more options, it is still predicted that tickets will sell out for certain routes. Therefore, if you do plan to travel by train, you should book tickets early.

The majority of the expansions will happen in the Northeast, Midwest, and along the West Coast. To get a full list of the added trains, you can visit Amtrak’s website.
