With a rise in prices everywhere, Americans are in search of cost effective travel destinations this summer. New research shows “nearcations” and car rentals are the best options.
Outdoorsy's survey says
Outdoorsy’s Vacation on a Budget, conducted by OnePoll, reveals that 52% of travelers rent cars while traveling to save money. 9 out of 10 travelers say they would rather sleep in their rental car than book a hotel.
Jeff Cavins, co-founder and CEO of Outdoorsy says, “While other vacation types have seen drastic rises in cost over the past year in line with inflation, our average RV rental trip price has gone up $5 over last year, representing a .28% increase.”

Inflation's effect on travel
58% of travelers surveyed say they plan to travel close to home this summer to avoid rising gas prices and inflation. A “nearcation” allows people to travel to a new destination while keeping costs down and staying near to home.
There were 2,000 adults surveyed and almost 70% say they will travel this year despite price increases. They plan to scale back on clothing, lodging, and excursions.
Why you should book an RV vacation
According to Cavins, “RV vacations are great for consumers’ pocketbooks in the current financial climate as they represent a cost saving of up to 21-64% for a four-person travel party (RVIA), by removing unnecessary spending out of travel and allowing customers to be at ease.”
“Knowing they can go to the grocery store and purchase a week’s worth of food for their trip at the same price it would cost to take the whole family out for dinner one night is the type of cost-saving trade-off you experience with RV travel,” says Cavins.
Travelers are excited to travel to explore new destinations, make memories, spend time with their families and escape.
“May families who are concerned about shifting gas prices don’t realize they can also get an RV delivered to a campsite or destination of their choice — easily creating their own low-cost, luxury hotel room under the stars,” Cavins continues.
So if you have plans to travel this summer, but don’t want to break the bank, try a “nearcation” or rent an RV.
