As the Coronavirus continues to be a concern for many travelers and the public in general, it’s vital that we stay healthy and informed. In metropolitan areas like NYC, people are wearing masks and commuting with disinfectants in hand.

The virus has killed hundreds of people with tens of thousands being infected across the world.

If you’re traveling soon but worried about contracting the virus, here are 5 ways you can avoid getting the Coronavirus while traveling.

Wear A Mask

This may sound overboard but wearing a mask can actually be beneficial to your health while traveling. According to the New York Times, a mask is mostly needed if you’re in a place where a lot of illnesses have been reported.

The best type of mask to wear is a heavy-duty one that is fitted to your face.

Don’t Eat Off The Tray Tables

There’s a report by the Government Accountability Office dating back to 2015 which says crew members have a limited time to clean the cabin before passengers board. This means that oftentimes, the tray tables go without being properly cleaned.

If you’re going to be on a long flight and must use the tray table, be sure to bring sanitizing wipes and thoroughly wipe the table before utilizing it.

In addition to wiping the tray tables, you should wipe the seats, air vents and bathroom handles.

If you don’t have sanitizing wipes with you, place paper towels on the tray tables before putting any of your personal items on the table.

Make Sure To Rest

If your immune system is up to par, it will be more difficult for you to contract the virus. Be sure to hydrate, drink plenty of water, eat healthy foods and get enough rest.

It is vital to get between six to eight hours of sleep at night and try not to let stress get the best of you.

Wash Your Hands

One of the best ways to avoid getting the Coronavirus is to wash your hands with soap and water. When traveling, you are touching lots of different surfaces that are filled with germs. Be sure to frequently wash your hands, especially after going to the bathroom each and every time.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, washing your hands can reduce the risk of respiratory infections by 16 percent.

Adjust Air Vents

The overhead vents on planes carry germs from passenger’s hands touching them. It’s best to move the vents so that they don’t blow on your face, especially your nose and mouth.
