Airports and airplanes can be a breeding ground for germs and airborne illnesses. Add in the stress that often comes this time of year, and you may find yourself fending off sickness before you even land at your destination. Here are a few tips to help you stay healthy this holiday season – so you can enjoy more time with family and all your favorite holiday indulgences.

Sleep, Sleep, Sleep

Make sleep a priority while you travel. Sleep is when your brain and physical body repair themselves, and without enough sleep, you are inhibiting the body’s ability to stay healthy. Find ways to relax and get comfortable on planes or long car rides and try to stick to your normal sleep routine while on the road.

Go Outside

Fresh air and sunshine are often the best medicines. Studies show that walking just 10 minutes can aide in digestion and lower inflammation and stress in the body. 20 minutes of direct exposure to sunshine on your skin can boost vitamin D levels enhancing immune function. So, make time to get outside and get moving.

Hydrate

Drinking water is essential to your health. Water and coconut water are both great options to stay hydrated while you travel. Keep your plastic waste to a minimum and buy a reusable bottle that you can refill throughout your travels. Added benefits of staying hydrated include increased energy and calorie control.

Pack Vitamins

Take your vitamins before, during, and after traveling: Vitamin C to boost your immune system, probiotics to keep your gut healthy, and ginger and garlic to ward off germs. Adding lemon to your water is a simple way to boost your immune system if you can’t purchase these vitamins in time.
